 Some gorgeous red boxes have just arrived from Japan with the Studio27 logo printed in big white letters, and one of them has “R18 24h LM 2014″ written on the side. Yes, I know I’m the boss and I’m not supposed to do such kind of things, but… i couldn’t help!!
I’ve grabbed one of the boxes when no one was watching and hid into my office the whole afternoon. Hard working. Yes, working really hard. Who says that making a “quickie” about the Le Mans Audi 18 e-tron Quattro isn’t a tough job? |
 Han llegado de Japón una serie de preciosas cajas rojas con el logotipo de Studio27 impreso con grandes letras blancas, y una de ellas tiene en el lateral la inscripción “R18 24h LM 2014″. Vale, ya sé que soy el jefe y no debería hacer estas cosas, pero… ¡¡¡no he podido resistirme!!!
He cogido una caja y corriendo sin que me vea nadie me he encerrado en el despacho toda la tarde. A trabajar. Sí, a trabajar. ¿O es que hacer un “rapidito” de un Audi R18 e-tron Quattro de Le Mans no es trabajar? |

| Studio27 scale model kit production mainly focus in two areas: on one side, seventies and eighties Formula 1 cars with detailed engines, and on the other closed body sport cars and prototypes modeled without detailed engines (curbside), as this Audi R18.
And for all of you who hasn’t ever had a Studio27 kit in your hands, I’m going to tell you what those red boxes hide within |
La producción de kits de Studio27 se centra principalmente en dos áreas: por un lado coches de Formula 1 de los años 70 y 80 con el motor detallado, y por otro deportivos de carreras y sport prototipos con carrocerías cerradas y modelados habitualmente sin motor (curbside), como este Audi R18.

Ok, enough with the theory… it’s time to open the box!! 
The first thing to pop are the instructions (we’ll talk about them later…), and beneath lies the well packed parts, with all sets tied to an inner cardboard that avoid any bent or broken parts on arrival. |
Basta ya de teoría… ¡¡es el momento de abrir la caja!!
Lo primero que aparece son las instrucciones (de las que ya hablaremos…), y debajo de ellas se encuentran las piezas bien empaquetadas, sujetos todos los conjuntos a un cartón interior que evita que las piezas lleguen dobladas o rotas. |

| It happens that the assembly instructions are by far the lousiest part of the kit (failing right at the desserts). They’re brief, to say something, and somewhat defficent, not to mention the color chart: short and under detailed, not pointing to real color references or paint manufacturers. Just “black, white, silver, cooper, red ..”.
Well, not everything could be perfect, and at least the errors are in the parts less likely to influence the final result of our kit… or maybe not? |
Y es que las instrucciones de montaje son sin duda la parte más floja del kit (pinchamos en los postres). Son someras, breves, con algunas deficiencias, por no hablar ya de las indicaciones sobre la carta de colores a usar: muy breves y poco detalladas, y no indican siquiera referencias de colores reales ni de fabricantes de pinturas. Simplemente “negro, blanco, plata, cobre, rojo, …”
Bueno, no todo podía ser perfecto, y al menos el fallo está en la parte que menos debería afectar al aspecto final de nuestro kit… ¿o quiza sí? |

| From now on, it’s all about assembling. The interior, with a good parts listing, has the dashboard, control panel, wheel, bucket seats, inner walls and electrical boxes. Everything falls right into place and requires no special attention, mostly because once the kit is finished you can just barely see the result through those tiny windows.

De aquí en adelante, todo es montar, montar y montar. El interior, despiezado muy correctamente, ofrece el salpicadero, panel de control, volante, baquet, paredes interiores, y cajas eléctricas. Todo va a su sitio y no quiere de ninguna atención especial, sobre todo porque una vez terminado el kit apenas se aprecia el resultado a través de las pequeñísimas ventanas.

La carrocería tiene todo el aspecto de un moderno reactor militar, solo que al ir colocando piezas y mas piezas acaba por tener el aspecto de un prototipo de carreras.

| The most tricky part due to the car architecture is the assembly of the headlamps and wheel arcs, made by resin parts, metal parts and photoetches, and finally lined up with carbon fiber. You’ll need a really good planning of all the steps for a good final assembly, not because of any errors on the model, but because of the complexity of the actual car…

La parte más complicada por la arquitectura del coche son los ensamblajes correspondientes a los faros y pasos de rueda delanteros, compuestos de piezas de resina, piezas de metal y fotograbados, y que además hay que forrar de carbono. Para el montaje definitivo hay que hacer una buena planificación de los pasos a seguir para un buen resultado final, no porque el kit esté mal hecho, sino por lo sofisticado del coche en sí…

 Headlamps and front wheel arcs are for sure the most tricky parts…  …but the final result is gorgeous. |

| The brake system, rims and wheels have a really good break up, and excellent fittings. I personally miss inflation valves on the rims to fit my personal taste, and the most seasoned modelers would have to work on the carbon fiber covering the brake discs in the actual car. |
El sistema de freno, las llantas y las ruedas tienen un despiece muy correcto, y un encaje excelente. Para mi gusto faltaría añadir las válvulas de inflado a las llantas, y para los modelistas mas avanzados habría que trabajar el carbono que cubre los discos de freno en el coche real. |

| A nice detail from Studio27: the kit includes the necessary parts for leaving the wheels unassembled, thus being able to appreciate the whole brake system; as you can see, for this “quickie” we chose the mounted wheel option.

Es de agradecer que Studio27 incluye las piezas necesarias para dejar las llantas montadas o sin montar, pudiendo apreciar así todo el conjunto de frenos; para este “rapidito”, optamos por la opción del vehículo con las llantas montadas como podeis ver.

| The rear spoiler isn’t complicated but, since it is hanging from the central point of its upper side, once the glue and carbon fiber moment arrives you’ll have to be very careful and pay full attention if you don’t want to spoil the whole ensemble.

El alerón trasero no es complicado pero, al estar suspendido en el punto central de su cara superior, una vez llegado el momento del pegamento y las calcas de carbono habrá que tener mucho cuidado y prestar atención para no estropear el conjunto.

| As in every “quickie”, no parts were painted, no decals were placed, and we’ve also skipped the photoetches and tiny parts. In less than one hour the Audi R18 E-tron looked exactly like the photographs… and without a drop of glue!! At this point, the kit looks straight A.

Como en todos los “rapiditos”, no se han pintado piezas, no se han colocado calcas, y tampoco se han colocado fotograbados o piezas muy pequeñas. En poco más de una hora estaba el Audi R18 E-tron tal y como se aprecia en las fotografías… ¡¡y sin una sola gota de pegamento!! Hasta este punto, la maqueta tiene un sobresaliente de nota.

| Will it be able to hold that grade in a full assembly, including decals and paint? I don’t think so: it’s hard to say it, but my bet is that it will turn an absolute A+++.

¿Tendrá la misma nota si se realiza el montaje completo incluyendo pintura y calcas? Es difícil apostar, pero pienso que podemos estar ante una maqueta de Matrícula de Honor.
